Seriously, stop the puns: Serioux to be traded
March 24, 2006

According to a source close to the situation, Metro is trading newly-signed Canadian international Adrian Serioux to Houston. Serioux, a supposed destroyer with a knack for red cards, has been signed to shore up the club's defensive midfield, but with all Senior International slots filled and the forward position being a rising source for concern after a preseason scoring drought, it looks like Metro had to clear up a slot to sign a foreign striker.

Interestingly, Houston features former Metro Ricardo Clark in its defensive midfield, as well as second-year pro Danny O'Rourke, who was a supposed favorite of Reds GM Alexi Lalas when the two were in San Jose. Metro plays Houston tomorrow night in both team's Carolina Challenge Cup finale.

The move leaves Metro without a true defensive midfielder, with only real options for the slot being out-of-position Mark Lisi and still-unsigned-and-raw Elie Ikangu. The SI slot can be used (as opposed to a mystery striker) to sign Ante Jazic, who played the position for Metro in the most recent match, but that swap of Canadians does not make much sense.
